Inclusion needs no justification.

Our name comes from a Roman jurist of Syrian origin who refused to justify an injustice.

The story behind our name

A jurist who refused.

Papinian takes its name from Aemilius Papinianus. In 212 AD, Emperor Caracalla ordered him to provide a legal justification for the killing of the emperor's brother, Geta. Papinian refused to use the law to defend the killing and was executed.

Our founders have Syrian roots and chose his name deliberately. His refusal represents the principle behind our organisation: human dignity and equal participation should not depend on power, nationality or social background. People should not have to justify their right to belong.

Based in Vejle, Papinian organises local community programmes, Erasmus+ youth activities, training courses and intercultural initiatives. We work in Arabic, Danish, English and Spanish with young people, youth workers, adults, migrants, refugees, schools, municipalities and community organisations.

Local roots, European reach

Experience that connects local and European work.

Papinian combines year-round community engagement in Denmark with practical experience across Erasmus+ and other European programmes.

We have coordinated and delivered a Youth Exchange for young people and a KA153 Training Course for youth workers. We have also joined several projects led by other organisations, contributing as a Danish partner to preparation, implementation, dissemination and follow-up.
